Gabriel Taapopi School 20th Anniversary!

Our school is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Since it was formed in 1988, this year marks its 20th year of existence. A reunion is in plan, where all former/current learners and friends are invited to come and celebrate the 'centre of excellence'. This will be from 29-31 August, at the school in Ongwediva. So if you fall in any of these categories, or would simply would like to pay homage to one of the best schools in the north of Namibia, please you are more than welcome.

With the aim of raising funds to assist in achieving the school's set targets, raffle tickets are being sold.. everybody is asked to buy as many as they can, alternatively they get to be entered into a draw where they could win N$ 10 000.00 or other cash prizes. T-shirts and other souvenirs will also be sold at the main event, so that you at least take something home. Those attending the main event on the 30th are asked to buy lunch tickets (N$50.00).

People assigned to sell all items are all around you... so you can ask for who's closest to you. Also, please be informed that the school will have a stand at the Ongwediva Trade Fair, where you can make a turn. Visit the school website at http://www.gtsschool.org

Please don't hesitate in asking for more information from the school regarding anything. Personally, I look forward to meeting people who schooled at G.T. who I have never met before. What people does our Alumni boost? I wonder! Aluta continua, victoria acerta!

Grateful!

I'm so grateful that I have come to the end of one of the most important terms in my school career. My results aren't bad. I'm relieved, and know that there's still room for improvement. This holiday should just be a chance to at least retire, and continue where I left off and polish up for the final exams to matriculate. Applications to university have opened and I'll apply. Luckily, the annual Ongwediva Trade Fair is taking place this holiday as well, I'll make a ten -not a turn. Thank God, things are beginning to look up at least!

Good to be back!!

I'm glad to be back after an extremely busy sports calendar -that's how term 2 is! As captain, I lead a formidable school football team with a potent attack and a team that arguably plays the best football in the whole northern region. But, our school had sort of curse that needed to be broken -silverware drought! Our school had a tendency of playing great football but never won many trophies. The last time our school collected silverware was in 2004, well 4 years ago. As customary, we managed to reach several finals but always finished runners-up or third place, including on one occasion that we lost to Okalongo SSS 1-0, the very school that won the most prestigious prize in the country -the Coca Cola Football Stars 2008. I should tell you that we managed to break the curse! We won something this year. Our own Gabriel Taapopi SS School Tournament, that means that I became the first captain to lift the trophy from our own school. Since its inception in 1998, Gabriel Taapopi has never won her own trophy, well, until this year that our team made history. It was a privilege leading such a team, and we enjoyed ourselves, being on tour -weekend in and out. I just hope that the boys keep up the wining spirit to next year, and then hopefully win more silverware. What a sporting year it was for me. Now know the meaning of "Bon ape tit". Joga Bonito!

Off the hook!

I'm glad to have finished writing my exams. They were quite extraordinary, I don't think I've had such really brain teasing exams. They could only prepare us for the final ones. Now the holiday's definitely ON! I'll try to save my team from relegation. We're currently placed 2nd last in the Oshana Football League, second division. We're only 4 teenagers on the team, although the team's name is Teenagers FC -amazing hey!

We won't win the league?

Who would bet with me.... that Man United won't win the league this year..... If I can get at least a 10 000? We beat Arsenal, now we are going to beat Chelsea and clinch back-to-back league titles, my fellas are playing very well. If I can get another 10 000, who say we won't win the champion's league this season? We look unbeatable!
